Little Women

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott is a book that really doesn't need any recommendation from me.  Still, I want to write about it because I love the book so much.  It's Saturday night and I'm looking forward to cuddling up on my sofa and enjoying the characters once again.  What about you?  Is Little Women one of your favorite books?

If you've read Little Women already, do you look forward to reading it again?  I know that I enjoy pulling it down from the shelf and reading it again every few years.  I know women who read Little Women every year as a ritual.  It's just that good of a book. (Read More)

This summer I’m going to be spending a lot of time sitting at the local YMCA pool watching my daughter swim.  And instead of just staring at the sun, I’m looking forward to loading my Kindle Fire with as many books as I can.  That’s the amazing thing about the Kindle Fire; you can load it up and take it with you a lot easier than lugging around a tote bag filled with books and bursting at the seams.

I’ve got a lot of ambition this summer as far as reading is concerned.  I want to push myself to finish some classic books that I’ve never made the time to finish.  There are also a lot of books that I’ve read great reviews about but never had the time to actually read; but now that summer is here, I’m making the time.

Another group of books that I’ve never made the time for are e-books offered for free on websites like Amazon or Barnes and Nobles. I have this wonderful feeling that I’ll find new authors with wonderful stories just waiting to be discovered.

This summer I would like to take you along for the adventure.   I will share with you my reading diary so that we can compare notes about the books we read this summer.  Some books will be amazing and other books not as amazing; but a book shared is so much better than one that’s not.

So let’s dive into summer reading and swim through an ocean of words together.

Summer Reading Adventures

Anne of Green Gables Series

This summer I'm going to read the whole Anne of Green Gables series.  It's a lot of reading as their are about eight books to read.  Eight of the books in the series are available in the public domain and free for download but there are a  couple of the books in the series aren't available in the public domain so I'll either buy them or check them out from the library.

Visit my Anne of Green Gables page for links to downloading the series for free.(more)

Overdrive

I have book envy.  I read book reviews and Oprah's book club suggestions and wish that I could buy every book suggested.  The problem is that I’m on a budget and buying bestsellers is not in my budget.  So, I envy anybody who isn’t on a budget and can buy gobs of bestsellers, without any regrets.

Buying books is something I never regret doing.  Blowing my budget is something I regret a lot.  For many years I maintained my budget by buying books at garage sales or thrift stores but you can’t buy an e-book at a garage sale or thrift store. (more)

Finding Amazon book bargains

Today I’m going over to Amazon to find some good books to read.  My budget is tight since we are saving to go on a short trip at the end of the month, so I’ve really got to find some book bargains.  For months I have been trying to figure out how to find free e-books on the Amazon website.  I’ve tried to search for “free kindle books” only to get a bit frustrated with the results.  Then I found out about Amazon’s Top 100 free Kindle e-books (more).

Book Review

The Art of Racing in the Rain is a great summer reading book because it grabs your heart from the first word and doesn’t let go until the very last sentence.    As soon as I finished reading this book, I wanted to buy a copy for everyone in my family.  Reading this book is such a great experience, you’ll want to share it.
